Traveling GPS System for Walking & Driving in Europe

Most GPS devices are designed for either driving or walking purposes. However, certain models, such as the Garmin Nuvi 500 series, are capable of handling both types of navigation. In addition, some of these devices come with support for traveling in Europe. When using these GPS devices in Europe, you typically need to manually switch between walking and driving mode.

   Step 1

Connect your GPS device to a power cable or make sure it has a working and fully charged battery.

Step 2

Press the power button to turn the GPS device on so it can begin searching for network signals. On most devices, the signal display uses the bar icons.

Step 3

Enter the address or coordinates of the location where you want to navigate using the GPS device's touchscreen or keyboard.

Step 4

Tap on the mode icon, usually located at the top of the screen, and then choose the type of navigation mode you want to use, such as driving or walking.
