Boasting a high-resolution display, Switch provides superior readability in varying light conditions - especially bright light. With 8 hours of battery life from a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, Switch has enough gas in the tank to capture most activities. And for endurance athletes, Magellan offers an optional Battery Extender Pack that provides 16 hours of additional battery life, for a total of 24 hours.
Switch is water-resistant to 50 meters, so it can be worn for an extended period in water to track swimming activities and other high intensity water and snow activities. The slim design and flexible wristband mean Switch can be used in a variety of conditions.

Switch breaks away from the pack by introducing a new training concept for GPS watches – Activity Pacer. Once a desired distance, time and speed/pace have been set, Activity Pacer not only shows the targeted progress, but more importantly, provides specific targets to attain or maintain the original goal.
Additionally, Switch includes fitness and training features such as customizable activity screens with over 80 data fields to choose from, 9 activity profiles to save device configurations based on activity type, auto lap, auto pause, backtrack navigation, marking locations, activity history, and more.

Magellan RoadMate 5175T-LM

The Magellan RoadMate 5175T-LM Traveler features lifetime map updates and traffic data. The TourDirector feature lets users browse local attractions, set itineraries, and optimize travel time from the unit's menus. Wi-Fi connectivity allows users to browse the Web and update the unit's software.

Magellan's latest 5-inch GPS navigator aims to differentiate itself from the ever-shrinking portable navigation market with a pair of unique features that should make life easier for sufferers of wanderlust. The RoadMate 5175T-LM Traveler's TourDirector feature helps users to explore unfamiliar cities and Wi-Fi connectivity keeps them connected to the Web while on the go.

Magellan RoadMate 5175T-LM

The Magellan RoadMate 5175T-LM is a new unit from Magellan, whose most notable feature is WiFi, so I’ll focus on that in my review. It has a 5” screen with accelerometer, allowing you to use it in landscape or portrait orientation. And as the T-LM implies, it comes with traffic and lifetime map updates.

It also has a new feature called Tour Director that helps you plan vacation travel, based on the average visit time for a destination. 

Magellan eXplorist GC

The Magellan eXplorist GC is a new introduction designed to do one thing well – geocache! It has a 2.2” color (non-touch) screen, 18 hour (rated) battery life and a highly detailed  worldwide basemap. And while it isn’t designed for backcountry navigation, it can accommodate 500 waypoints and a 5,000 point tracklog. Really though, the eXplorist GC is a one-trick pony aimed at geocachers, with a low and sure to be discounted MSRP of $199.99.

The unit is nice and compact, weighing in at 5.2 ounces with batteries. It’s rated IPX-7 in terms of waterproofness. The battery compartment and USB port seem well sealed. It uses a standard (non-proprietary) mini-USB cable. There is no memory card slot. The eXplorist GC feels solid and is easy to operate with one hand; the buttons all seem quite responsive.

Ask for other options if you also want to turn the device into an in-car navigator that speaks street names!
The Mobile Mapper 6 weighs less than 224g, and is supplied with a built in 2MP camera. Bluetooth comes standard, as well as an SD storage option for raster maps, photos, or videos etc. Embedded speaker and microphone make it easy to record audio files or field notes. Running on 2 x AA batteries will allow for 10 hours of operation.
